Li Auto i8 Launched: First Pure Electric SUV
On February 25, Li Auto officially released the first official images of its first pure electric SUV, the Li Auto i8. In the future, Li Auto’s pure electric SUV lineup will adopt the “i-series” naming, complementing the L-series and MEGA models to complete the brand’s product matrix.
The new SUV retains the brand’s signature design from the official images while introducing fresh innovations. The iconic star-ring daytime running lights are positioned below the windshield, resembling the Li Auto MEGA. The front hood features additional sculpted lines, giving the vehicle a more robust and muscular look. Moreover, the lower U-shaped front bumper has been updated, incorporating larger vertical air vents and a combined high-low beam headlight assembly. The rectangular front grille extends down to form a front lip spoiler, enhancing the SUV’s sporty appeal.
The rear design is expected to be a highlight. Unlike previously leaked spy shots, the new model’s rear end closely resembles the Li Auto L9. Updated contour lines further enhance its sense of power. Unlike the MEGA’s enclosed rear design, the i8 embraces a more traditional SUV-style rear. The two-tone body remains, complemented by a full-width taillight strip. The license plate is centrally placed on the tailgate, while the enlarged rear bumper features a dual-layer design, adding depth to the rear profile.
Interior details and powertrain specifications have not yet been revealed. However, judging from the details, the front-row layout is expected to follow Li Auto’s signature style, featuring a dual-screen setup, a HUD, and a compact instrument panel. The screen mounting differs slightly from the L-series, suggesting potential improvements in interior ergonomics. Additionally, the SUV comes with dual-tone exterior mirror housings matching the body color and a newly designed compact roof-mounted LiDAR sensor to further reduce aerodynamic drag.
In terms of performance, referring to the Li Auto MEGA, the i8 is expected to adopt a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with a combined maximum power output of 400kW and a 102.7kWh battery pack. More details about the Li Auto i8 will be reported as they emerge. What are your thoughts on its design? Share your opinions in the comments!
