BYD Has Become The World's Sixth Largest Automaker
BYD achieved significant sales growth in the third quarter of this year and successfully consolidated its position as the world’s sixth-largest automaker. Its new car sales surpassed Ford’s for the first time. According to data, from July to September this year, BYD car sales reached 1.13 million vehicles, an increase of 38% over the same period last year. It sets the most successful quarterly sales in the brand’s history. By comparison, Ford sold about 40,000 fewer vehicles, causing it to slip from the sixth-largest automaker to seventh.
From January to September, Ford maintained a slight lead. Ford has delivered 3.3 million cars globally, slightly higher than BYD’s. However, BYD’s sales growth is strong. In addition, BYD’s revenue in the third quarter of this year also reached 201 billion yuan, equivalent to US$27.6 billion, higher than Tesla’s US$25.2 billion.
